Graduate Student Travel Grants
MSCS Graduate Student Travel Grant
The MSCS Department offers funds for student travel to research related workshops and conferences. Funds may be used for transportation, hotel, meals, and/or registration expenses. Please submit the completed Travel Request Form to dgs-mscs@uic.edu at least two weeks before travel.
Award Amount: As long as funds are available, graduate students can receive up to $450 within the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).

Documentation Required at Least Two Weeks Before Travel
- Travel funding requests must be submitted to the DGS Office, and
- Request approval for all math related travel plans by emailing Eloy Reyes (eareyes@uic.edu), Assistant to the Head with the following:
- name of conference and location,
- travel dates,
- purpose of attending the conference (do not include links),
- funding source, and
- forward approval from funding source, if applicable.
Reimbursement
Please submit your receipts to Danny Aviles (dae6288@uic.edu), Accounting Specialist. Reimbursement requests must be requested within 60 days of the traveler’s return.
If you are new to the reimbursement system at UIC, please complete the Security Clearance Form before starting the reimbursement process.
UIC Graduate Student Council Travel & Conference Awards
UIC’s Graduate Student Council Travel Award is available to students attending or actively participating in academic or professional meetings. To eligible applicants, the GSC gives awards of up to $550, which may be used to cover funding including transportation, lodging, registration fees, and meal costs. This does not include conferences taking place in the city of Chicago.
Applicants must be:
- presenting his/her own original work (paper or poster) at a recognized meeting or conference, or
- chairing a session at a recognized meeting or conference, or
- leading a discussion at a recognized meeting or conference.
Graduate College Student Presenter Awards
The Graduate College offers Student Travel Awards to deserving students to defray expenses associated with travel to present original research or scholarly work at a meeting or conference. Qualifying presentations must be at a meeting or conference of a nationally or internationally recognized scientific or scholarly society, and applicants must be presenting the research themselves. Awards may be used for transportation, hotel, meals, and/or registration expenses.
Award Amount: Up to $150
Student Submission Deadline: as soon as possible after the completion of the event.
AMS Graduate Student Travel Grants
Meetings are an important part of any young mathematical scientist’s professional development. Listening to talks, meeting active researchers, connecting with old friends, learning about professional issues and resources, and making new professional connections are building blocks of the early career. AMS Graduate Student Travel Grants provide partial support for the Joint Mathematics Meetings and AMS Sectional Meetings.
