Laura Schaposnik Massolo (UIC): A Geometric Stroll Through Science

Mathematics provides a universal language for understanding the
patterns that shape our world, from the intricate symmetry of
snowflakes to the structure of viruses and the spread of information
in society. In this talk, we will embark on a geometric journey
through science, exploring how mathematical frameworks can be used to
classify and study diverse phenomena. We will see how geometric ideas
arise naturally in biological structures, epidemiological models, and
even social networks, providing insights that transcend disciplinary
boundaries. Along the way, we will also reflect on the path of a
mathematician, considering the role of curiosity, collaboration, and
creativity in shaping a career in research. This talk aims to provide
an accessible and engaging perspective on how geometry and
mathematical structures illuminate the natural and social worlds
around us.
