Document Accessibility for Theses and Dissertations
Beginning with submissions for Spring 2026 graduation, all UIC theses and dissertations must comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. To demonstrate compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA, all UIC thesis and dissertation submissions must pass an accessibility check.
It is acceptable to submit an inaccessible version and an alternate accessible version as long as they have the same content. If LaTeX is used, this LaTeX template has been designed to produce both pdf files and accessible ePub files with latex2html. Our Professor Julius Ross's github hosts an accessible LaTeX template for a thesis. Older LaTeX templates used in the past will not generate an accessible output without extensive modification and should not be used.
